Emily Frances Lessman

Emily Frances Lessman 1932-2012, a span of life to equal 80, no one knows their span of life, it can only be mandated by God. Emily was born in Bentleyville, Pennsylvania but later moved to Monessen, Pennsylvania which is located along the Monongehela River just south of Pittsburgh. Emily was a singer, a God given talent that she had. Emily’s high school year book picture underneath it read “She likes steak and is our songbird”. She began to sing at the age of 13 in her church and went on to sing our National Anthem at various public ceremonies in Monessen. When she graduated from high school, she was awarded a scholarship in voice but due to certain circumstances, she was unable to take advantage of it. Her friend Shirley Jones lived near by, they both sang in a state choir in Harrisburg. Shirley later became a famous movie star in Hollywood. Emily traveled a lot with her husband who was in the Army Air Defense; they lived in Germany for 6 years. While in Germany, she was given an award from the Army for her singing at Berchtesgaden during a Protestant conference there. There were about 400 wives from all over Germany. Emily and the host from Berlin were the only one’s that sang solos. Bob and Emily lived in Delray Beach, Florida before coming to El Paso; there she was a bank teller for Sun Bank. After coming to El Paso, she worked as a bank teller but decided to try employment at Wal-Mart, where she worked for 20 years and retired in 2010 just before she was diagnosed with dementia. Emily leaves her husband of 58 years and their 2 dachshunds “Bonnie” and “Toby”. Her parents preceded her in death many years ago. Also she leaves her daughter Devonna Marie Goldstein, who lives in Delray Beach, Florida. Emily is a member of Coronado Baptist Church, her pastor, Mike Woods, will have a small memorial service for her at Sunset Funeral Home at 480 N. Resler on Monday, May 5, 2012 at 11:00 am. Emily decided to be cremated and have her ashes taken back to Pennsylvania. Angels will welcome her Spirit and have her in their Choir. Services entrusted to Sunset Funeral Home-West.
