Elvira Rae Cervantes went to claim her place by our Lord’s side on Saturday, November 22, 2008 after a long struggle with an illness which holds no prejudice. Elvira is survived by her husband of 40 years, Roland C. Cervantes, her three daughters, Anna M. Lopez, Rita M. Urias & Stephanie Ravenscroft, and eight grandchildren. Mrs. Cervantes grew up in San Antonio, TX where she met and fell in love with Roland. They and their three children would travel the world together as an Army family, fortunate to live in and visit places such as Germany and France. Elvira was an active person. She was the pitcher on a baseball team and won more than one bowling trophy. She also volunteered at her childrens' schools and didn’t hesitate to chaperone girl scouts on trips to places like San Diego. Each afternoon we looked forward to coming home to the scent of pine-sol and coffee cake. She was a wife who held no grudges believing in the phrase “forgive & forget.” She was a mother who held no judgment and never questioned with, “What were you thinking?” She was a grandmother who loved with all her heart and made sure her babies were well taken care of, kissing them goodnight each day and whispering “I love you.” She was a friend who always asked “When is the next party?” and always opened her door for comfort and warmth. She will be greatly missed as her spirit lives on in those she spent her life with. Visitation will be from 5:00-9:00 pm, Sunday, November 30, 2008 at Sunset Funeral Home-Northeast with a Vigil/Rosary at 7:00 pm. Funeral Mass at 10:00 am, Monday, December 1, 2008 at Christ the Savior Catholic Church. Interment will be at Fort Bliss National Cemetery. Services entrusted to Sunset Funeral Homes-Northeast.
