Eloy Castillo

Eloy Castillo, Sr., 78, passed away on Tuesday, March 23, 2010. He was a resident of El Paso for 50 years, where he worked as a counseling psychologist for the Veterans’ Administration for 32 years before his retirement. He was instrumental in the establishment of various credit unions in El Paso, where he also served as a Board Member for the credit union as well as Goodwill Industries. He was preceded in death by his wife, Ramona. He is survived by his sister, Elvia Gonzalez, and his children Eloy Jr. and wife, Rose Therese, Belinda Castillo, and Celia, and husband Alfredo Vela, Jr. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Samantha Castillo, Bethany Castillo, Nicholas Castillo, Joshua Vela, and Naomi Vela, as well as numerous nieces and nephews. He championed tirelessly for the disabled and those less fortunate. His passion for life was reflected in his love of music, education, wit, and laughter. He was the epitome of “gentleman” and will be remembered as a kind, loving and generous man who brought out the best in all those who were fortunate enough to know him. Visitation will be held on Monday, March 29, 2010 from 4 PM to 9 PM, with a Rosary at 7 PM at Sunset Funeral Home - East. Funeral mass will be held at San Antonio Catholic Church, 503 Hunter, at 9:30 AM on Tuesday, March 30, 2010, with interment to follow at Fort Bliss National Cemetery. Services entrusted by Sunset Funeral Home – East, 750 N. Carolina.
