Elizabeth Jean Harrington

November 12, 1927 — June 21, 2010

Elizabeth Jean Huchingson Harrington, beloved wife of Leroy John Harrington, Jr., devoted mother of Elizabeth Jean, Mary Nan, and Rebecca Alice, and dear friend of many throughout her life, died June 21, 2010. “Jeannie” was born November 12, 1927 in Benton, Arkansas, where she lived until 1965, when Leroy came to El Paso as general agent for the Aetna Life Insurance Company. Jeannie earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Home Economics from Henderson State College, now Arkansas State University. Known for her warm hospitality, she made her home a place of love, friendship, and refreshment of spirit. She has passed on a rich heritage of pleasure in preparing good food and welcoming all to the table. Jeannie was preceded in death by her parents Fleetwood Salley Huchingson and George Gordon Huchingson, and her sister Mary Lee Huchingson Brown. She is survived and will be greatly missed by her husband of sixty years, Leroy Harrington, Jr., her daughters and their husbands, Jeannie and Phil Buskirk, Nan Napier and Sam Paredes, and Becky and Don Houghton; grandchildren Stefan Pharies, Alice Carter, Hilary Pharies, Rebecca Napier-Moore, Creed Napier, and Gentrye Houghton; great grandchildren Isis Cunningham, Micah, Lorelei, and Finn Carter, and Isabel Napier-Moore. A lifelong member of the United Methodist Church, Jeannie was active and served in many capacities at Trinity First United Methodist Church. She had a special heart for the Methodist Women’s Circle organization, which supported and embraced her during and after her own mother’s death when she was a girl of nineteen. A Memorial Service will be held Thursday, June 24, 2010 at 11 am at Trinity First United Methodist Church. Memorial contributions may be made to either Trinity First United Methodist Church Women’s Circle, 801 N. Mesa, El Paso, TX 79902 or to White Acres Good Samaritan Society, 7304 Good Samaritan Ct., El Paso, TX 79912.
