ELIZABETH CHIKAKO DODGE EDWARDS
May 4, 1981 – December 8, 2023
Elizabeth Chikako was born on May 4, 1981, in El Paso, Texas. She was the daughter of William James Dodge and Takako “Terry” Chino Marschall Dodge.
On April 14, 1990, she was baptized at the Church of St. Clement.
“Ebi” graduated from Coronado High School in El Paso, Texas, in 1999, where she was a varsity tennis player and cheerleader. A violinist in the Coronado Orchestra, she played at Carnegie Hall and toured Japan. She attended the Secondary School Program at Harvard University.
Ebi then attended Tulane University in New Orleans, Louisiana, graduating in 2003 with a double major in Philosophy and Environmental Science. She was a member of Pi Beta Phi Sorority. She interned at Tulane University Hospital and Blood Center of New Orleans.
After graduating, she taught English for two years in her mother’s hometown of Kanazawa, Ishikawa, Japan, as part of the Japan Exchange and Teaching Programme. There she continued her family’s close relationship with the Yokota family.
She then attended St. Mary’s University School of Law in San Antonio, Texas, where she met her future husband. During law school, Ebi attended the Institute on World Legal Problems at the University of Innsbruck, Austria, and clerked for the Bexar County Civil District Court Staff Attorney’s Office. In 2009, she obtained her Juris Doctorate and was admitted to the Texas Bar in 2010.
On November 27, 2010, she married Robert Lee Edwards in Wailea, Maui, Hawaii. Their daughter, Elaine Takako Edwards, was born on August 19, 2020.
Ebi worked for the Office of the Attorney General of Texas from 2011 until her death. She began as an Associate Attorney General in the Child Support Division and ended her career as the Senior Regional Attorney and Regional Director of the El Paso region. She was admired for her integrity, honesty, cordiality, and candor with everyone; tenacity in the courtroom; and dedication to the children of Texas.
Family and friends recall her strength, grace, intellect, kindness, and joyfulness. She loved cooking, tennis, and traveling to Japan, Hawaii, and Mexico. She was a devoted mother, wife, and daughter.
Ebi was preceded in death by her mother. She is survived by her daughter, husband, father, and grandfather Kenneth Marschall and his wife Kyoko Strauss Marschall of Georgetown, Texas; and aunts and uncles Ken Marschall and Michele Spence of Corrales, New Mexico; Jerry and Kim Clarno of Sunnyvale, California; Karen and Mark Seymour of Port Angeles, Washington; and David and Karen Strauss of Round Rock, Texas.
A Celebration of Life will be held at 4:00pm on Tuesday, December 19, 2023 at St. Clement's Church, 810 N. Campbell St. El Paso, Texas 79902
