Edward August Eberhardt

Mr. Edward “Ed “A. Eberhardt, 85, passed away peacefully with his family at his side on July 31st 2011, in El Paso, TX of complications from cancer. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife Eleanor in 2005 and his daughter Diane Swendiman in 2001. Ed was born to August and Lillian Kennehan Eberhardt on April 22nd, 1926, in New York. He grew up in Floral Park, New York. On January 15th 1948, Ed married Eleanor L. Bond in Harrisburg, PA. They shared 57 years together. Three children were born to this union: Diane, Patricia, and Richard. For twenty-six years, he honorably served his country in the U.S. Army, retiring in 1971 at the rank of Chief Warrant Officer II, after which he completed his BBA degree in accounting from UTEP. He then pursued a career in teaching that included instructing foreign troops at Fort Bliss and substituting in the El Paso School district. In retirement Ed and his bride Eleanor enjoyed trips to Germany and were known to frequent Las Vegas several times a year. He enjoyed bowling with his friends up until age 80, served as finance officer at American Legion Post 58, and was a member of Most Holy Trinity Catholic Church for 41 years. Ed was often sought out for tax advice and did small business accounting and income taxes up till age 82. He is survived by his wife, Cassandra Eberhardt; daughter, Patricia Eberhardt (Joe Ferguson) of Albuquerque, NM; his son, Richard Eberhardt (Kathy) of Olathe, KS; grandchildren: Laura Eberhardt of Ann Arbor, MI; Amanda Eberhardt and Kristal Eberhardt of Olathe,KS; Jeremy McBee (Amanda) of Ansbach, Germany; and Zachary Eberhardt of Hunter AAF, GA; his son-in-law, Mark Swendiman (Mary) of El Paso, TX; and his sister, Nancy Eberhardt of Greensboro, NC. Visitation will be held from 11:00 am-1:00 pm on Thursday, August 4, 2011 at Sunset Funeral Home Northeast. Scripture Services will begin at 1pm, Thursday, August 4, 2011 at Sunset Funeral Home Northeast. Interment will follow at Fort Bliss National Cemetery with Full Military Honors. All are invited to join the family in a Celebration of Ed’s life at 4:00 pm at the American Legion at 4724 Vulcan; El Paso, Texas 79904. Services entrusted to Sunset Funeral Home Northeast.
