Edgar Norton entered into eternal rest on Saturday, January 25, 2025 in El Paso, Texas after bravely enduring multiple medical challenges. He was born in Amarillo, Texas to A.J. Norton and Ruth Sparks Norton. His families on both sides were early ranchers in Quanah, Texas and the Hardeman County area. Edgar graduated from Midland High School, and the University of Texas Austin with a law degree (“hook ‘em horns”!). He served in the Air Force Judge Advocate General’s Corp (JAG corps) and was dispatched to South Korea, and then worked his entire professional life as an oil & gas attorney and landman in the Western United States.
Edgar loved the outdoors and fishing. He enjoyed his boat, Honey Bear, while living in Oregon and also his trips to Alaska. Best of all for him was a pot full of crabs, some smoked salmon or fried oysters, beverages of choice, and friends to share the stories and laugh with. He was a fun guy for sure.
Despite our loss we are consoled by the fact that Edgar lived a full and adventurous 94 years, longer than anyone in his family (which he was proud of). Edgar is preceded in death by his parents A.J. Norton and Ruth Sparks Norton, his sister Nelda Ruth, and partner Ruth Reeves. He is survived by his daughter Karen Norton Rothberg (Frederick), son Alan Jay Norton (Cathy), niece Pam Teagarden and her family, five grandchildren and three great grandchildren with another due in May. He is also survived by his El Paso community of friends and professionals who will miss sharing time or working on his many projects with him.
Many thanks to the wonderful people who helped Edgar in his personal and professional endeavors as well as his medical challenges. Special thanks to Laura Hernandez of Caring Companions who provided her special and loving care to Edgar and Ruth for over thirteen years.
Edgar was a private person and requested no services or celebrations, therefore a private non-celebration is planned.
