Edith Hagan

Edith Hagan, age 95, was called Home on Wednesday, March 19, 2025. She was born in Weslaco, Texas on June 23, 1929. She was a wonderful wife, mother, daughter, sister, grandmother, great-grandmother, aunt, and friend, who will be dearly missed. Edith is preceded in death by her parents: Louis F. and Anna Rose Pugel, her husband: James Andrew Hagan, her eldest daughter: Barbara Hagan, and her sisters: Betty Lievens and Dorothy Smyers. She is survived by her children: Andrew Hagan (Elsa), Kathleen Roth (Gary), Martin Hagan (Kim), Daniel Hagan (Mary), and Ann Marie Giron (Oscar), 7 grandchildren: Kendall Aguilera (Jaime), Jackie Hagan Doyer (Robert), Alexandra Barba (Jose Luis), James Hagan (Emily), Trey Roth (Kendra), Caroline Hagan, and John Hagan (Milady), as well as 12 adored great-grandchildren: Peyton Aguilera, Lainey Aguilera, Andrew Hagan, Vivian Hagan, Evangeline Hagan, Benjamin Hagan, Marty Doyer, Edey Doyer, RJ Doyer, Nicolas Barba, Emiliano Barba, and Magnus Ignatius Hagan. She is survived by many extended family and friends to cherish and honor her memory.

Edith lived a beautiful life. After graduating from nursing school, she became an operating room nurse. She loved caring for the sick and needy. She later met and married the love of her life, Jim, and she became a military wife. They traveled all over the United States, and raised five children. Her life and love was for her husband and children. Their house was always bustling with friends and wonderful chaos. She became a second mother to so many of these friends. Motherhood in all forms was natural to her and she believed God blessed her abundantly with her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.

She shared herself with all walks of life. Waiters in any restaurant in town knew her by name, and she would introduce them to her family by saying, “This is my friend!”. She shared her time and gift of music by playing the piano for nursing home residents over the past few years. She shared her gift of compassion by working with underprivileged children in an after-school program in Anapra, and gave bigheartedly to countless charities. Those whose lives she touched were able to feel and see His light shining through her.

Edith’s faith in Christ was steadfast and unwavering. She loved the Lord and revealed this throughout her life. God’s gift to her was the gift of a generous and tender heart. If she saw a need in others, whether those close to her or strangers, she acted on that need. Edith had a humble servant’s heart and was the embodiment of a God-centered life. She was, is, and always will be the heart of our family.

The family would like to thank Dr. Douglas Payne for his outstanding and compassionate care for so many years, Grandview Hospice (Scott Heri, Victoria Thorne, Bertha Martinez, Michael Heri, Elsie Munoz, and Mark Portugal), and her beautiful caregivers: Terry Rangel, Irma Vasquez, and Paula Miramontes, each who cared for her so lovingly during her illness and through very difficult days. She was so blessed to have her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren by her side, making her smile and bringing her joy, during her final months. She said, “My cup runneth over” days before she went Home.

A Visitation will be held from 4:00pm to 8:00pm on Monday, April 7, 2025 at Sunset Funeral Homes-West with a Rosary to commence at 6:00pm.

The Funeral Mass will be held at St. Matthew’s Catholic Church at 11:45am on Tuesday, April 8, 2025. A Graveside Service will be held immediately after the Mass at 1:30pm at Fort Bliss National Cemetery, 5200 Fred Wilson Avenue.

She loved celebrations, she celebrated everything! Her favorite color is purple, so in her honor the family will be wearing purple and invite others who wish to join us (subtle or bold)!

A Celebration of Her Life will be held at 150 Sunset Event Center from 3:30pm to 6:30pm immediately following the burial. All are invited!

During the holy Lent season, flowers are permitted at the Visitation but not permitted in the church. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her name to Samaritan’s Purse-Where Most Needed. Samaritan's Purse is a non-denominational Christian organization that provides spiritual and physical aid to those affected by war, poverty, natural disasters, disease, and famine, with the goal of sharing God's love through Jesus Christ worldwide.
