Druanna L. Burris-Pegg, 61, passed away on Thursday, December 21, 2023. Druanna was born in El Paso, Texas on August 29, 1962. She graduated from Bel Air High School in 1980. She obtained her Cosmetology license and owned Druski Nail Salon for over 10 years. While in El Paso she dedicated her spare time to working with the Youth in the community. Druanna helped mentor and proudly did hair and makeup for Viva El Paso, Teen/Miss/Mrs. Texas USA Pageants, Modeling Agency’s, and Dance Studio’s. She was a member of the Lower Valley Optimist Club where she held numerous leadership rolls from the award winning Rattler Bulletin Editor to Club President to Lt. Governor of the NMWT District.
In 1996 Druanna and her best friend Micheal followed her dream to move to New York City where she lived out her life. Amongst the many positions she held she worked for Warner Brother’s as a project administrator, CNN in training and development where she trained journalists all over the world, and The Late Night with Steven Colbert Show as a media manager.
Her many accomplishments include the Andrew Heiskell Community Service Award for her countless hours of volunteer work creating and maintaining the Lost Loved Ones website at Ground Zero after 9/11, two Peabody Awards for her tireless work at CNN as apart of their 2008 Election coverage, and an Emmy for her work on “Election Night 2020.”
While in New York she volunteered with the nuns and loved leaded RCIA classes at Holy Trinity Roman Catholic Church. Druanna loved doing arts and crafts and was even recognized by a magazine in the UK for her impeccable work creating miniature bears. She was a part of her knitting community where she touched the lives of many from all over the world.
Druanna lived each day of her life to the fullest and is a true testament to her love and devotion to Jesus Christ. Those who were fortunate enough to know her describe her as being the kindest, most gracious, knowledgeable, talented, and brightest human being they had ever met.
Druanna is preceded in death by her father James Burris and step father Robert Madrid. She is survived by her mother Drusilla Madrid, sisters Sandi Burris and MaryAnn Gregory, brother-in-law Gary Gregory, nephews Griffin and Wyatt, nieces Sophia and Virginia, best friend Micheal Fielder, her cousins Liz Rogers, Jimmy McDade and Chad Ozment who were more like a siblings and numerous other cousins.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Friday, December 29, 2023 from 5-9 PM with Rosary & Services starting at 5:30 PM at the Bel Air Optimist Club, 7700 Ranchland, El Paso, Texas 79915.
