Our beloved mother, Doris Dixon-Walker, was born November 24, 1939 in Waco , TX to parents, Robert Dixon Sr. and Savannah Allen Dixon. Doris was the youngest of three siblings. Professing a fervent belief in our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ at an early age she was baptized by the late Reverend G.B. Prince, who was pastor of Mt. Olive Baptist Church. Doris was educated in the public schools of Waco, TX having graduated from AJ Moore High in 1957. The family relocated to Los Angeles, CA in 1958, and united with Praises of Zion Baptist Church, pastored by Rev. Joe B. Hardwick. In Los Angeles, Doris attended Southwest College and Cal State University, graduating with a degree in Nursing in 1974. In 1962, Doris wed Howard Walker, he preceded her in death. From 1974 to 1991 Doris worked as a charge nurse at Martin Luther King Hospital in Los Angeles, CA . Doris and her family relocated to El Paso, TX in 1991 where she became a member of Mt. Zion Missionary Baptist Church, pastored by Rev. William. There she remained a steadfast member until her demise. She was also a member of The Eastern Star, and the Daughter of Isis. Here in El Paso, she worked at Thomason Hospital as an ICU Pediatric nurse. She was preceded in death by her parents and her brother Roscoe. She leaves to mourn her passing her children: Roderick (Rusty) Brooks, El Paso, TX; Cidney Walker and her husband, Kevin Bomar, Buena Park, CA; Miku Walker, Mansfield, TX; and Myeesha Walker, El Paso, Texas; eight grandchildren: Devon Lee, Davis, CA; Desean Lee, San Diego, CA; Roderick Brooks, Jr., St. Louis, MO; Ryan Brooks, Los Angeles, CA; Matthew Brooks, Houston, TX; Jahshua Montero, El Paso, TX; Derrick Brooks, Houston, TX; Máteo Montero, El Paso, TX; and Katelyn Bomar, Buena Park, CA; brother and sister-in-law Robert and Shirley Dixon, El Paso, TX; and sisters-in-law: Gale Monk, and Raye Ann Monk of Los Angeles, CA . To her family, She was known as the glue that kept everyone together, a head strong women who would not move or falter in her morals, beliefs or ideas for no one. A women who wanted the best for her family and herself. Doris was the rock and sage of her family, never being moved and always blessing her family with wisdom and love. In times of need, she always did her best to provide for her loved ones, even when she could not provide for herself; she would always sacrifice for her family. In that sense, she epitomized Christian love. She was a Mother, a Grandmother, a Sister and a Nurse. She was dependable, hard working and always approachable. Doris was the type of person who took every experience as one that she can derive knowledge from, and found some way to give her knowledge back to those who chose to seek it. She cared for her loved ones like she cared for her patients, giving enough love and support when they couldn’t support themselves for them to thrive and not just survive. She was truly a blessing to all that had the honor to be in her presence and, will surly be missed. Visitation will be held from 6-8 pm Friday, October 19, 2007 at Sunset Funeral Homes-Northeast.
