Doris Coleman Fairchild

Fairchild, Doris C. Coleman (Irwin) age 101 passed into the arms of the Lord on April 15, 2023.

“Dot” as she was known all her life, was the 9^th of 10 children born to Essie Ellen McDowell and Leslie Hunter Coleman, in Brookneal, Campbell County, Virginia. Dot is pre-deceased by her husband Wilford L. Irwin; second husband Rufus H. Fairchild; daughter Rita Wanda Long and son-in-law Richard L. Long; her parents, all her 7 brothers and 1 sister. Dot is survived by her youngest sister Nancy Fay Nelson of Virginia, son Richard H. Irwin, daughter J. Linda Barker, and Wesley R. Barker (son-in-law) all of El Paso, Texas. She will be missed by her numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren, great-great grandchildren, and a very large extended family.

Born and raised to tobacco sharecroppers in the state of Virginia on July 30, 1921, she always had so many treasured stories of a time with close family ties, hard work, and history of the region where shew grew up. She taught all of us by example the value of a kind word, gentle hand, loving heart, hard work, and self-reliance. Noted for her singing, poetry, and oil painting skills we will miss her harmonica serenades most of all.
