Donald Roy Haney, 72, loving son, husband, father and grandfather, passed away on Saturday March 15, 2008 after a long and hard fought battle with bone cancer. He was born on March 13, 1936 in Smyrna, Georgia. He lived there with his mother and stepfather up until the time he met and married his wife of 55 years, Frances. In 1953, Don joined the United States Army and proudly served his country until he retired as Sergeant First Class on February 1, 1975 and settled here in El Paso. Afterward, he joined Civil Service where he worked as an instructor, most notably on the HAWK Missile System, until his retirement from there in January of 1995. After his government service, he decided to stay busy and became a school bus driver for Region 19 Head Start. He drove for the District for five years through the summer of 2003 until he became sick and just couldn’t do it anymore. He truly loved all of the little kids that he picked up and dropped off everyday. Those children brought a lot smiles to Don’s face. Don traveled to many places and formed many long lasting and wonderful friendships during the time he was in the Service. His favorite hobbies were tinkering around with old cars and dining out. There will be so many things we will miss about him. He was a caring and giving man who would do anything in the world for you. He was always there for us and we know he’ll still always be there. Don is preceded in death by his father, Roy Haney, his mother, Grace Andrews and his grandson, Eric Lee Pansch. He is survived by his loving wife Frances, daughters Cynthia, Liz and Debra (Mike), stepfather R.B. Andrews, granddaughter Danielle, grandsons Tony and Eric Sepulveda, and several cousins back home in Georgia. Don would never forgive us if we didn’t mention that he’s also survived by his little poodle pup Emily, who is just as lost without him as we are. Our family would like to thank the nurses and staff of Hospice El Paso and the Texas Veteran’s Home, and we’d especially like thank Dr. Warren Alexander and Dr. Thomas Repine for all of their care and compassion during Don’s illness. Pop, there’s no cancer or diabetes in Heaven, so you can be pain free and eat whatever you want now. We love you so very much and will miss you always. Be Happy. Be Happy Every Day. Visitation from 5:00 pm to 8:00 pm, Tuesday, March 18, 2008 at Sunset Funeral Home-Northeast. Graveside Service at 11:30 am, Wednesday, March 19, 2008 at Fort Bliss National Cemetery. Services entrusted to Sunset Funeral Home-Northeast.
