Donald C Foster, USAF Ret.

June 2, 1917 — February 13, 2007

Col Donald C. Foster, USAF Ret. died Tuesday, Feb 13 at White Acres Good Samaritan Retirement Village with family at his side. He was born on June 2, 1917 in Spartanburg, SC, the fourth of nine children to parents Bernard and Lillie Foster. Upon graduating with a bachelor?s degree from Wofford College he joined the United States Army. On December 6th 1941, the day before Pearl Harbor, he married Joan Herndon Thompson and while the honeymoon lasted only one day, the marriage lasted sixty-five years. World War II took him to the skies above North Africa, Sicily and Italy and began a lifelong service to his country in the United States Air Force from which he retired in 1969. He then served as Director of TROA for ten years and on the board of ASAE (now MOAA). He is survived by his wife, Jodie, two sons, Don of Paonia, Colorado and Michael of Winchester, Virginia, two daughters-in-law, SuLin and Lynn, eight grandchildren and two great-granddaughters. Also surviving are two brothers, Howard and Philip and two sisters, Dorothy and Jeanne. Don was always active in his church singing in the choir and serving on the vestry for many years. He was also active in the El Paso Rotary and was the first Rotarian of the Year in 1989. A Memorial Service will be held on Tuesday, Feb 20 at 11:00 AM at St. Clements Episcopal Church, 810 N. Campbell . Don loved his country, loved his family and friends, loved to play golf, but, oh how he loved to fly.
