Dolores Olga Phillips, 84, of El Paso, Texas and formerly of Champion, Ohio, passed away Wednesday, April 9, 2025. She was born in Warren Ohio, to William and Genevieve MinYoung.
Dolores was a 1959 graduate of Champion High School and studied at Kent State University. In September 1962 Dolores married Allen Phillips. Al recently passed away in December 2024.
Dolores was a talented artist varying in different medias such as wood sculpture, oils and acrylics, and photography. She had a creative mind which was evident in her paintings and how she decorated her home. Her involvement in the art field included being a member of Plein air painters and El Paso Painters and displayed some of her works at local museums and art shows.
She was an animal lover and always had a dog or cat or both. One dog, Sam, went through training and testing which allowed he and Dolores to visit hospital patients and residents of nursing homes. Dolores was involved with Paws For Love for which she was their newsletter editor for a few years and took photos at the HSEP Telethon each year. Dolores and Al had also been involved with Trumbull County Midnight Riders 4-H Horse Club with their sons at the county fairgrounds.
Dolores is survived by her sons – Randall (Lauren) of Minnesota, and Joseph (Page) Phillips of Arizona; grandchildren Sarah (Eason) Phillips-Johnson; Zachary and Danny Phillips; Austin, Caden, and Tanner Phillips of Arizona; step grandchildren Taylor (Paige) Weigle, Zack (Faith) Freeman, and Madison Freeman; great grandchildren Lyla Phillips-Duffney, Sebastion Freeman, and baby girl Freeman.
She will be sadly missed by her sister, Sherril MinYoung Johnson, sisters-in-law Carol Taylor and Peggy Phillips; niece Linda Astolfi and nephew Jeff Nyako; nephews Tim (Karen) Schulz and Michael Schulz, and nephew Peter (Anne) Schulz. She was preceded in death by her parents and her older sister Loretta MinYoung Schulz.
A private service was held for Dolores by her sons and daughters-in-law. In lieu of flowers Dolores requested that any contributions be made to your local humane society or any charity of your choice.
