Delores (Tena) Stewart, born in Tuscaloosa Al on March 15th, ’38, passed away December 4th, 2017 at Hospital of Providence Sierra Campus. She is preceded in death by her parents Mrs. Alice Summers, and Mr. Walter Jones, an Aunt Mrs. Ida Mae Brown and Brother Mr. Fredrick Brown. She is survived by husband Dr. (Ret. SGM) Orbie Stewart, her son, Mr. Douglass Stewart, her daughters Ms. Rosaland Stewart, and Mrs. Paula Nelson, her granddaughter Trinity Nelson. Also surviving are her sisters, Mrs. Loretta Hamilton and Ms. Lenora Gray; her brothers Mr. Theodis Davis and Mr. Jimmy Davis.
With God’s angels around her and by the light of the super-moon she was guided from earth to heaven. She was a faithful member of the United States Army Sergeants Major Academy (USASMA) chapel at Biggs Army Airfield, where she served as choir director for over 30 years.
Tena performed with the El Paso Chorale, The Kindrick Community Singers and Ft. Bliss Hand Bell Choir. She served on the steering committee of the El Paso Chopin Music Festival. Tena most recently taught voice at El Paso Community College. Music was the spine of her life; her family and church family were its heart.
Visitation will be from 6:00pm to 8:00pm, Monday, December 11, 2017 at Sunset Funeral Home Northeast. Funeral Services will begin at 1:00pm on Tuesday, December 12, 2017 at USASMA Memorial Chapel, 11275 Biggs Street. Committal Service to follow at 2:30pm at Fort Bliss National Cemetery.
