Delia R. Skendrovic

May 21, 1928 — April 12, 2013

DELIA RUSSELL POSEY SKENDROVIC, 84, passed away Friday, April 12, 2013. “Dee” was born May 21, 1928 at Casa Piedra, TX. She was the daughter of Robert Russell and Amanda Spencer Russell, and is preceded in death by her parents and siblings Edward, Mary Alice, Carlos, Oscar and Robert Lee, and husband Ltc. (Ret.) Norman A. Skendrovic. She is survived by daughters Gloria A. Berry (Gene), Mary Ellen Baker (Steve), Elizabeth “Dee Dee” Gundersen, and Catherine Posey (Craig Weisbart). Nine grandchildren: Michael Berry (Beavercreek, OH), Erin Staats (Round Rock, TX), Stacey Shelton (Phoenix, AZ), Lesley Shelton (Portland, OR), Ruben Torres III, Mark Torres, Matthew Torres (El Paso, TX), Tim Shelton (Maricopa, AZ), Brian Shelton (Chandler, AZ) and 12 great grandchildren, numerous cousins, nieces and nephews. She grew up on a ranch in West Texas and enjoyed horseback riding, roping, rounding up cattle, and shooting. She attended Van Horn High and was the prettiest girl in school. Dee met her first husband, Paul H. Posey, at a Halloween dance, and they were married in 1951. They started a family and moved to El Paso in 1958. She worked in several drug stores, a Hallmark shop, and GC Liquors. She married her second husband, Norman, in November 1982. She enjoyed family vacations, visiting with friends and family, Oktoberfest, and music. She loved photography, the outdoors, the Texas desert mountains, and teaching all the babies in the family to dance. She loved and adored her grandchildren, while instilling hard work and discipline. She had so many “Mom-isms” that we keep in our memories. Dee was known for her generous charity, her sense of humor and quick wit, and her beautiful smile. She knew no strangers, and touched the hearts of all. She will be dearly missed. The family wishes to thank the staff at Bienvivir, Comfort Care, Sierra Medical Center Telemetry Unit, Hector Lopez, Jr. MD, Abraham Gonzales, MD, and Texas Oncology, all the nurses, healthcare workers and social workers; the staff at Emeritus at Cielo Vista, the staff at Sun Ridge at Desert Springs, and all the friends and family who helped with care in her final days. We thank Stephanie Townsend Allala for her guidance and help. Services are entrusted to Sunset Funeral Home Northeast, 4631 Hondo Pass, El Paso, TX, with visitation Monday, April 15, from 5 – 9, vigil/rosary at 7 pm. Funeral Mass is Tuesday, April 16, at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church, 9025 Diana Drive, at 1:30 pm, with internment following at Fort Bliss National Cemetery.
