Deborah Sue McDonald

March 6, 1953 — January 12, 2022

Debbie McDonald was born in Fort Knox, Kentucky to Charlotte and Glen Nayle. As the oldest of 5 siblings, she was the leader of the pack. Many of their earliest adventures started with her. She grew up in El Paso where she met and married the love of her life, Michael McDonald. Mike and Debbie lived in Germany during Mike’s military career, which explains her love for schnitzel. Once they moved back to the states, they lived in El Paso where they started their family in the Northeast. They eventually moved and made their home in Cedar Park in 1997 where they raised their children. Together, they created a legacy and built life-long friendships everywhere they went. Debbie never met a stranger and was always the life of the party. Debbie surrounded herself with friends that eventually became family. Her favorite past times included the gatherings with North Hills neighbors, Elephant Butte getaways, and street racing with Mike on the weekends. After moving to Austin, she loved weekends on Lake Travis and spending winters in Ruidoso. She also really enjoyed substitute teaching and made some dear friends doing so, it wasn’t just for extra spending money for dishes and furniture. Always an incredible hostess, she made her home feel like your home. She welcomed you in with beautiful decorations (and possibly a shot of her Cuervo Gold). The only off-limit item was her Coca Cola. Debbie spent long nights and weekends at the fields watching her kids play sports: baseball, soccer, and golf. Although she never played golf, she drove the golf cart like a pro. She was always their biggest fan. When she had spare time, it was a guarantee to find her driving around town living her “Shop ‘til you Drop” mantra. Her “Ooooh la la” was how you knew she found a new treasure. Debbie’s reach was far and strong. She touched many people’s lives and will truly be missed. Every time we see pearls, we will smile and think of her; if she could, she’d let us all know she’s “good to go.” Debbie is survived by her siblings: Terry Nayle, Robin Woelfel, Mark Nayle and his wife Monica, and Candi Hagy and her husband Moni; her children: Randy McDonald and Roxanne McDonald; her grandchildren, Easton, Greye and Maddie. Graveside service will be held at 9:30 AM on Friday, February 4, 2022 at Fort Bliss National Cemetery.
