Deacon Jesus Carlos Cortinas Born 09/04/1942 Ordained Deacon 06/14/14 Died 12/16/21 Deacon Cortinas was preceded in death by his parents Jose and Ildefonsa Cortinas. Survived by his wife of 53 years Maria Dolores Cortinas and 4 children; Carlos Efren (MaryAnn), Luis Arturo, David Joseph, Ana Dolores Cortinas Carlson (Eric). He is also survived by three beautiful granddaughters, Karen Cortinas, Catalina and Hazel Carlson, and his brother, Jose Luis Cortinas (Joani). Deacon Cortinas retired with over 30 years of service from Safeway and Furr’s Grocery Stores. He was employed by the Catholic Diocese of El Paso as a Mail Clerk for 13 years. He was an active member of Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church where he served as Deacon, Coordinator of Religious Formation and Catechist for 30+ years. He battled cancer with faith in the Lord and great courage. We are blessed to have had him as the loving head of this family. Thank you first and foremost to our family and friends for their overwhelming acts of love, kindness and compassion. We are forever grateful to Bishop Mark Seitz, his brother Deacons and our religious community, MD Anderson Cancer Center, Texas Oncology (Dr. Valilis), and the doctors and nurses from Del Sol Medical Center who supported us with their expertise and compassion during Deacon’s last moments.
