David Tovar

August 5, 1943 — November 19, 2020

David Tovar was born on August 5,1943 and passed on to live a greater life on November 19, 2020. He is preceded in death by his parents Jesus R. Tovar and Beatriz Tovar. He is survived by his sister Rosa Bustillos, brother in law Francisco Bustillos, nieces Claudia Yvette Bustillos, Terry Lambourn, Bernadette Bustillos, Rebecca Bustillos (Jason) his grand nephews Jeremy Lambourn, Elijah Hazelton and his grand niece Abigayle “Boo” Lambourn. Along with his precious care givers Maria, Cristy, Marivel, Andrea, Marisol, and Zuriel. David served in the Navy during the Vietnam War on the USS Mount Baker AE-4. Upon his arrival back to the states he chose to keep his life simple & worked for Circle K till he retired. David was an unusual sort of character; he was ornery, witty, and straightforward with a vocabulary of a drunken sailor on shore leave, and possessed a sense of humor that was unmatched by others. He enjoyed a good verbal bout and would patiently wait to end it off with a good zinger that would leave us speechless & in full on laughter. Even after his stroke that left him with limited mobility, he still possessed his zest for sarcastic playful expression. Favorite memories of David were when he would come over to visit once a month to receive “updates” on the family. My mother would gleefully fill him in on all the ‘gossip’ & from the hallway or den, we would hear a shocked “Que? What? Ahh Hell” Once he had heard enough, he would end his visit with “you people are nuts.” While proclaiming the family’s insanity to antagonize his sister, and get her going on endless rants & explanations, he’d enjoy sneaking in our ‘domingo’ while she had her back turned. He was a kid at heart and had no quarrels showing his true nature. He and his roommate Ti-Ti delighted in shooting their smuggled nerf guns at the nursing home staff shouting ”Go away! And Vayanse a la Chingada!”, until they were confiscated..three times! Whoever got the first shot in was the winner of a coke. (I cannot begin to convey their plea for water guns). We would like to take a moment to Thank the staff that became his family at the D’Santos Foster Home. Please know that we are eternally grateful for the care you all provided to our Uncle. You embraced him with open hearts, spoiled him with his favorite foods, kept him company (when he allowed it), accepted his quirky nature and best of all, were patient with him from the moment he was settling in to the end when you all were his world. There isn't enough space to express the attributes we came to love and enjoy during our visits with David even if they ended with him tenderly flipping us off. We end with this - David If heaven exists, what would you like to hear God say when you arrive at the pearly gates? “Welcome! This way to the Mexican buffet table.” By the way, Your parents are here apparently, you've got some e’splaining to do. Visitation will be from 9:00 – 11:00 AM, with Rosary at 10:30 AM, on Saturday, December 5, 2020 at Sunset Funeral Homes- East, 750 Carolina.
