David Howard Nelson, 73, beloved husband, father and grandpa passed away on Thursday, May 23 ,2019 in El Paso, TX. He will be greatly missed by his wife of almost 38 years, Alicia, son Michael David (Shawndar), daughter Guillermina Alicia (Steve) granddaughters, Jadyn Parks and Samantha Martinez, sister Martha Watkins of Las Vegas, Nevada. Also survived by brothers and sisters-in-law, numerous nieces, nephews, grand nieces, grand nephews, and cousins from El Paso, California, Wisconsin, Albuquerque, Chicago, Denver, Hawaii, Houston, Iowa, Las Vegas, Kentucky, Ohio, Tennessee, and Virginia. He is preceded in death by his parents, Howard and Evelyn Nelson and older brother John. He was born in Oshkosh, Wisconsin and attended schools in Oshkosh and Winnieconne. Before graduating from the University of Wisconsin, Oshkosh, he enlisted in the Army in December 1965. He served in Germany and Vietnam and returned in May 1968 to the States and El Paso where he became an instructor until his discharge in December 1968. He returned to college in Oshkosh to earn a BS degree in Education in 1972. David also earned a Master’s Degree in curriculum in Education in 1979 from UTEP. He obtained a teaching job in El Paso and taught at Jefferson, Andress and Irvin high schools for thirty five years. David loved teaching, his students and coworkers. We will always remember his love and pride for his family, his many passions and interests, especially the Green Bay Packers, Culvers and favorite British mystery programs. A Gathering of Remembrance will begin at 11:30am to 2:00pm on Friday, May 31, 2019 at Sunset Funeral Home Northeast, 4631 Hondo Pass Drive. Committal Service to follow at 2:30pm on Friday, May 31, 2019 at Fort Bliss National Cemetery. Services entrusted to Sunset Funeral Home Northeast.
