David James Moran

July 20, 1948 — July 4, 2010

David James Moran III, 61, lost his valiant battle with cancer on July 4th 2010. Born in Fort Hood, TX, David grew up in San Antonio, the son of David James Moran Jr. and Antonie Schroers Moran. He attended Central Catholic High School, graduated from Richardson High School and earned a scholarship to attend General Motors Institute (GMI), where he was a member of Phi Delta Theta. He received his Bachelor’s Degree from the University of Texas at Austin in 1970. David moved to El Paso, Texas where, as a MANPRINT engineer, he performed human factors and system safety analysis on military systems for ATAMIR at White Sands Missile Range for over 30 years. David was best known as a musician. He played bass, lead, and rhythm guitar and did vocals for country, rock & roll and blues bands in El Paso and Las Cruces---The Fugitives, Dust Devils, Rip Van Willie, Russ T. Nails, and Dan Bishop and the Jelly Roll Kings---for many years. He was admired and loved by fellow musicians and fans alike. David is survived by his loving family: his devoted and engaging wife of 18 years, Carol, two beloved step-children, Richard Fagan and Patricia Perez, and his six endearing grandsons, Brandon, Tristan, and Joshua Fagan, and Jonathan, Christian, and Paul Perez; as well as his sister, Tonie Moran and nephew and niece, Taylor and Megan Moran-Gates. David will be remembered for his unfailing wit, his deep intellect, his generosity, and his devotion to his work, his music, his lifelong friends, and his family. Memorial Visitation will be held from 5:00-8:00 pm, Wednesday, July 7, 2010 at Sunset Funeral Home-Northeast with a Memorial Service to begin at 6:00 pm. Interment is private. Services entrusted to Sunset Funeral Homes-Northeast.
