David E. Kelly was born January 20, 1945 in Atlanta, Georgia to Anderson and Sylvia Kelly who both has preceded him in death. To this union two children were born: David, which was the oldest, and Andrea. He also had a step brother, from a previous relationship of his father named Ellison which preceded him in death.
Although being born in Georgia, he was raised in Cleveland, Ohio where he stayed until enlisting in the Army. After retiring from the Army, he stayed in Cleveland a short time, then moved to a warmer climate – Texas.
David was enlisted into the Army at a young age. While in the service he earned his diploma and made a career in the service as a cook. During his military career he served in the Vietnam War, became a Staff Sargent, received a Black Belt in Karate, and retired after serving 25 years in the military.
He has always loved singing, he sang with groups before going in the Army, and every chance he got, while serving in the army. After dedicating his life to Christ he became a minister and continued using his angelic voice singing and spreading the gospel. Him and wife - Omega who preceded him in death would go to nursing homes to minister to the residents with the gospel in word and song. His love for music made him freely share his talent with others. His last Church of affiliation was Word of Life with Bishop Albert Mays as pastor and First lady Mother Mays. As long as his health allowed him, David served within the Church where needed. David was loved by many and had a loving and giving heart.
David leaves to morn his passing, his sister Andrea (Stanley), sister in law Susie, his son David (Ally), granddaughter Chelsea (Rashed), a great granddaughter Cyra, nieces Donna (Corey), Deborah (Robert), Kim, nephews: Bernard (Sharon), Stanley Jr. (Isadora), Steven (LaJean), and Sean. A cousin considered like a brother George (Evelyn), and a host of other relatives. Special thanks to Vicky Scott, and Pastor Randal Madison for keeping the family informed of David’s health condition. David loved to laugh, play pool, sing, bowl, and eat. He had a phrase that many imitate …. “THANK Ya!” which he delivered in his own special way and will truly be missed by many.
