David Enrique Avila, passed away unexpectedly at the age of 53, doing what he loved most: playing basketball with his friends on Good Friday, April 15, 2022. His life journey began on November 13, 1968, in El Paso, Texas.
He is preceded in death and is now reunited with his father, Jose C. Avila, along with many other dearly departed loved ones. David is survived by his loving wife, Rebecca Avila of 25 years and his legacy remains in his daughters, Brianna and Annette, as well as his soon-to-be born grandchild. He is also survived by his mother Virginia Avila, sister Norma Avila. He will be missed by his extensive family and friends.
David worked at the El Paso Times for many years and was president of the local chapter Graphic Communications Conference International Brotherhood of Teamsters. David went on to become the proud business owner of Northeast Printing in 2010. He was a member of the El Paso Franklin Mountain Rotary and was recognized as Rotarian of the year 2011-2012. David also volunteered as an executive board member for Showtime El Paso! He served on the Northeast Business Alliance (NEBA) board and was the chairman for the NEBA Scholarship Foundation. He was recognized by Parkland High School as the Homecoming Outstanding Ex. Amongst the many charitable organizations he helped, he was also proud to be a member of the El Paso Archeological Society. David’s heart was truly in his community and in Northeast El Paso.
David’s most treasured possession was his library card which guided his passion for knowledge of all genres. His devoted interests were in sports, the outdoors, the arts of all kinds, and especially in music. His hobbies included drumming, most recently learning guitar, playing basketball, reading, learning about cultures, biking, grilling, cruising downtown, hiking, watching all sports, attending live music events, and going to museums. He held great value for all his relationships, and he appreciated every moment he had on earth with his warm smile, generosity, compassion for others, and contagious enthusiasm for life.
