Dave Martinez

Our beloved husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, Dave Martinez, 90, died peacefully, surrounded by his loving family on Tuesday, April 28, 2009 in San Antonio, Texas. He was born in Raton, New Mexico on June 25, 1918. He was preceded in death by his son, David L. Martinez, Jr. Dave served in WWII as a staff sergeant in the U.S. Army and received a bronze star for service to his country. He was employed by Civil Service at Fort Bliss and after his retirement, he worked in real estate and with his son in car sales. He was a member of the Fort Bliss Golf Club where he enjoyed golfing with his friends. He loved spending time with his family and most special was his time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Dave is survived by his loving wife of 67 years, Bertha, daughter, Mary Ramos (Joe), grandchildren, Chris Martinez (Iris), Jeffrey Martinez (Angel), Cristina Hamilton (Judge), great-grandsons, Ethan and Aidan Martinez, Colin and Aaron Hamilton, sister-in-law, Rose Bates and several nieces and nephews in El Paso and New Mexico. Visitation will be from 5:00-9:00 pm, Sunday, May 3, 2009 at Sunset Funeral Home-Northeast with a Vigil at 7:00 pm. Funeral Mass will be at 9:30 am, Monday, May 4, 2009 at Our Lady of Assumption Catholic Church. Interment will follow to Mount Carmel Cemetery. Services entrusted to Sunset Funeral Homes-Northeast.
