Danny Moreno

September 20, 1953 — May 15, 2009

Our beloved son and brother, Danny Moreno, passed away on Friday, May 15, 2009, after a strong and valiant bout with cancer. Danny, the 3rd oldest of eight children, grew up in the Ranchland Hills area of El Paso, Texas. He attended elementary school at Guardian Angel, and continued his secondary at Cathedral High School. At Cathedral, Danny was active in student body activities, sports and was the manager of the Irishaire Choir. Danny’s quest for adventure took him to Southern California where he enrolled in El Camino College, studying architecture and urban planning. Always one to explore new interests Danny took up charcoal sketching, gymnastics, skiing, hand gliding and cycling. He subsequently enrolled in the Urban Planning program at the University of Southern California. During his studies, he started an association with the City of Manhatten Beach that would last through his entire career as an Associate Planner. Danny’s passions were many and varied. His travels took him to Europe, Russia, Turkey, Latin America and all across the U.S. His artistic pursuits included achitecture, painting and sculpturing. Late in his life his two greatest passions were running road races and wood working. Those of us lucky enough received handmade pens made of brilliant woods from across the globe and intricately designed cutting boards, jewelry boxes and wood bowls. Danny’s handmade furnishings include book shelves, a bedroom set and hope chests. Danny ran 3 Los Angeles Marathons, one San Diego Marathon and one New York Marathon. Danny will always live in our hearts and be remembered for his faith, sense of humor, impeccable style and rhythm, love and generosity to his family and friends and his unwavering integrity. Danny’s passion for life shines brightly in his daughter Ashley. He is survived by his parents Margarita and Gilberto, Sr., his sisters Mary Cynor and Irene Gomez and his brothers Gilbert Jr., Miguel, Ruben, Fred and Hector. In lieu of flowers the family would appreciate memorial contributions to the DAN KIND ACTS FUND P.O. Box 220487 El Paso, TX 79913.
