Cosme M. Cadena

Cosme M. Cadena, Sr. passed away on March 15, 2021. He was born on September 25, 1928 in Alpine, Texas where he met and married his childhood sweetheart Hortencia (Tenchi) and remained together until her passing in 2007. Cosme joined the U.S. Army at the age of 17 and served proudly, courageously, honorably until his retirement in June, 1976. While serving in the army he was stationed at many bases across the country and around the world, retiring with the rank of Command Sergeant Major. He was a loving father, son, brother, grandfather, great-grandfather and great-great-grandfather. He is preceded in death by his wife Tenchi, his daughters Mary Francis Portillo, Christina and Carmen Cadena and two sons, Mayo E. Cadena, Sr. and Mayo E. Cadena, Jr. along with his parents and siblings. He is survived by his sons; Cosme G. Cadena, Jr., Roman L. Cadena and James M. Cadena; daughters Sylvia H. Farmer, Efren D. Cadena Bermudez (husband Antonio) and Graciela E. Cadena; son-in-law Gustavo M. Portillo; granddaughters Priscilla J. Tolson, Hortencia Garcia (husband Billy), Stephanie C. Cadena Fritz; grandsons Kurt G. Portillo and Jerome E. Portillo, Christopher M. Farmer, Rene A. Cadena (wife Brenda) and Nicholas M. Farmer (wife Elizabeth); nine great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren. He was respected and admired by all who knew him which included nieces, nephews, cousins and countless friends. Pallbearers will be his grandsons and family friends. Visitation will be held on Monday, March 22, 2021 from 1:00 pm to 4:00 pm at Sunset Funeral Home Northeast on 4631 Hondo Pass. His funeral services will be on Tuesday, March 23, 2021 at 1:00 pm at Holy Trinity Catholic Church, 10000 Pheasant Road, a private burial service will be held for the family at Fort Bliss National Cemetery. The Cadena Family is asking for those attending to please wear a mask. Services entrusted to Sunset Funeral Homes- Northeast. Please visit online registry at www.sunsetfuneralhomes.net.
