SFC Atwood was a WW2 Veteran who made El Paso his home for over 55 years. He was a combat veteran, awarded the Purple Heart, Bronze Star, Combat Infantry Badge and numerous other citations. SFC Atwood served in the European Theatre of Operations with General Patton’s 3rd Army and was wounded the 23rd of March 1945 near the Rhine River. He retired after 20 years of active duty service. He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Mary Lily Atwood, 2 sons, 3 grandsons, 3 granddaughters and by 2 younger sisters. Visitation will be held from 5-9pm with a vigil/rosary to begin at 7pm, Thursday, March 17, 2011 at Sunset Funeral Home Northeast.
