CSM ( R ) Cleo Wilson, 90, of El Paso, TX was called to be with his Heavenly Father on 26 May 2017.
He was born on 12 June 1926, in Richmond Virginia to James Wilson and Ella May James.
During his life CSM ( R) Wilson was an outstanding soldier. He served 31 years in the U.S. Military, which included service during WWII and combat duty in both the Korea and Vietnam Campaigns. He awards include the Silver Star, Bronze Star and Purple Heart.
CSM (R ) served with COL ( R) Eric Vieler during the Korea Conflict. Later COL Vieler would author a novel titled - Destination Evil, which chronicled his experience as a Rifle Platoon Leader in the Korean War. In addition to dedicated his book to, then, Master Sergeant Cleo Wilson, he wrote that he was “the finest soldier I ever served with during all my 26 years of military service“. CSM (R ) Wilson was a very humble man, who never spoke of his heroics. Many who knew him never knew that a book had been dedicated to him or that he was a recipient of the Silver Star for combat operations in Korea.
CSM ( R) Wilson enjoyed his life. He was a movie and sports buff. In particular, he enjoyed boxing, football and western movies of all kinds. In his youth, was a 3rd Degree Black Belt in Tae Kwon Do and also taught martial arts.
Cleo was a symbol of strength and integrity to all who knew him. In particular, he was the foundation of his family. He was both a devoted son to his mother and a dedicated, loving husband to his wife (Darnell) of over 50 years. He was both a loving and caring father and grandfather. He devoted himself to his family. His words of wisdom, quiet strength and dignity will be greatly missed. He was preceded in death by his wife & daughter (Dale); his parents; his brothers James and Raymond & his sister, Gertrude. He is survived by his daughters Sharon Wilson, Jackie Wilson-Tarver, Darnell Wilson; his son, Houston Wilson; grandson, Marcus; grand-daughters Chloe and Jasmine, two great-grandchildren and loyal friends.
Visitation will be from 5:00pm to 8:000pm on Sunday, June 4, 2017 at Sunset Funeral Home Northeast, 4631 Hondo Pass. Funeral Service will begin at 10:00am on Monday, June 5, 2017 at Sunset Funeral Home Northeast. Committal Service will follow at 11:00am at Fort Bliss National Cemetery.
