Christopher “Guido” Louis Carcerano passed away on May 4, 2024 after a year-long battle with Glioblastoma. Guido passed away peacefully at his mother’s home in El Paso, where he grew up, under the loving care of his mom, Guadalupe Carcerano, brothers Andrew and Nicholas Carcerano, and with the support and medical care of Hospice of El Paso. He was 51 years old. Guido’s arrival for his final weeks was in huge thanks to his brother, Eric Carcerano, who bravely drove Guido from Michigan to Texas over the course of three days in March. Guido was loved by all who knew him. He was the life of every party, teller of epic stories, officiant for many weddings of beloved family and friends, petter of all the dogs, Commissioner of the league, Captain of the Cochinos, cook of the best BBQ, master gardener, host for so many parties, and the person who made all the days the best. He is preceded in death by his father, Nicholas L. Carcerano and survived by his wife, Lucy Hale; mother Guadalupe Carcerano; brothers Nicholas (Jodie) Carcerano, Andrew Carcerano, and Eric (Christine) Carcerano; nieces and nephews Caitlin, Katie, Evan, and Nicholas; in-laws Dennis Hale and Adele Travisano; and brother-in-law Tony Hale (Brian Wilson).
Guido lived most of his adult life in the Dallas-Fort Worth area. It was on a vacation from here, to Key West to go to his cousin’s wedding that he met the love of his life, his wife of 17 years Lucy Hale. Lucy cared for Guido through most of his illness at their home in Grosse Pointe Park Michigan, where they had moved in 2022. The love story of Guido and Lucy was one for the ages, and a huge debt is owed to David “Big Papi” Ortiz and the 2004 Red Sox, without whom a pact with God may have never been made and a marriage proposal never offered. Guido and Lucy loved to travel, road tripping across the country countless times for holidays, summer vacations, family reunions, to Las Vegas, or just to visit someplace new and have an adventure. They lived their lives with many pets over the years: cats Fiz, Merle, Guero, Izzy, Darcy, Otis, and Frances and dogs Billy, Rusty, Buchanan and Remy.
Guido was uncle to nieces Caitlin Carcerano and Katie Carcerano and to nephews Evan Carcerano and Nicholas Carcerano. He loved spending time with them, especially going to Red Sox games in Arlington and Houston. He was endlessly proud of the adults each one has become and boasted often about their many accomplishments be it graduations, college acceptances, jobs, pets, gallery shows, boat rescues, or just the last great phone call he had with them.
Guido was also a talented actor, having graduated with his undergraduate degree from Texas Christian University and Masters from Northern Illinois University. He acted as often as he could, and taught theater as well as speech and debate to students in middle school, high school, and college. He found great joy in inspiring generations of kids to find themselves in the performing arts, and stayed in touch with many former students well into their adulthood and careers.
A Memorial Mass will be held at 2:00 PM, Monday, May 13, 2024 at Our Lady of Assumption Catholic Church, 4805 Byron.
