Charlotte Dettman, MSSW-ACP, 68, passed away Wed., June 25th from breast cancer. She was a beloved mother and grandmother and a dedicated Advanced Clinical Practitioner who spent countless hours helping abused children, troubled teens, single parents and the elderly. She was born on May 27, 1940 in Del Rio, TX to John K. & Lola Vaughan but grew up in Dallas, TX where she graduated from Highland Park High School. She moved shortly thereafter to El Paso, TX. She started her higher education at Texas Western College but put her studies on hold to become a wife and mother. Later when her children were older and she was a single parent, she overcame much adversity to complete her education so she could better the lives of herself and her children. She received a Master’s in social work from the University of Texas at Austin and served many years helping others. She is survived by sons David (Tammy) Dettman of K.C., MO, Craig Dettman of Hattiesburg, Miss, daughters Dr. Robin Dettman & Laura Dettman both of El Paso, Grandchildren Michael & Kaitlyn Dettman, Step-grandchildren Kaylee & Kyle McGinnis, niece Teresa Sampey & brother John K. Vaughan, Jr. & 3 grand nieces. Preceded in death by both parents and sister Patricia Margraf. The family would like to extend thanks to Drs. J. Gomez, I. Sanchez & T. Reed and their staff as well as Envision Hospice, for the professional and compassionate care given to our Mother. Donations can be made in her name to the Rio Grande Cancer Foundation. The family will receive friends from 9:30 -10:00 am, Tues., July 1, 2008 with the Funeral Services to follow at 10 am at Sunset Funeral Home-West. Interment to follow at Memory Gardens of the Valley.
