Charles Toynes

Command Sergeant Major Charles Toynes was born November 11, 1930, in Austin TX. He professed a hope in Christ at an early age. He graduated from Anderson High School in Austin, TX. He graduated from Parks College, at Ft. Bliss, TX in June 1992. He married Josie L. Wilson on September 26, 1948. To this union was born four children; two daughters and two sons. He was drafted into the U.S. Army in 1953, where he proudly served 32 years and 7 months. Among his many service awards, he received National Defense Service Medal (First Oak Leaf Cluster)/Bronze Star Medal (Second Oak Leaf Cluster)/ Air Medal/ Vietnam Service Medal/ Overseas Service Bars ”2”/ Republic of Vietnam Champaign Medal/ Republic of Vietnam Cross of Gallantry W/ Palm Army Commendation Medal (First Oak Leaf Cluster) Meritorious Service Medal (First Oak Leaf). Extension of service was at the request and for the convenience of the Government 1 item 13; Cluster II Army Service Ribbon/ Overseas Service Ribbon “3”/ NCO Professional Development Ribbon “5”/ Good Conduct Medal (Tenth Award) Army Commendation Medal (Second Oak Leaf Cluster/ Legion of Merit. He was preceded in death by his father, mother and son Reginald C. Toynes. He left to cherish his memory, his wife Josie L. Toynes, son, Larry Toynes, daughter Carolyn L. Johnson of Falls Church Virginia, daughter Deborah E. Toynes of El Paso, TX. Three grandsons, Brian R. Toynes of New York, Charles Toynes of Austin, TX, Alex Toynes of Austin, TX, great grandaughter Kennedy Toynes, sister Arvella Toynes Slade of Austin, TX, brother Floyd Toynes of Austin, TX, brother Eugene Toynes of Fort Worth, TX, and sister Daisy Williams of San Antonio, TX, and a host of nieces, nephews, and friends. Charles was loved by many and will be missed. Visitation will be held from 6:00-8:00 pm, Tuesday, November 4, 2008 at Sunset Funeral Home-Northeast. Funeral Service at 10:00 am, Wednesday, November 5, 2008 at Sage Hall, Ft. Bliss. Interment will follow with Full Military honors at Fort Bliss National Cemetery. Services entrusted to Sunset Funeral Homes-Northeast.
