Charles McKenzie Rankin

Charles McKenzie Rankin passed away on Thursday, January 18, 2024, at the age of 89.

Charles was born in Kenna, N.M. on August 29, 1934. He graduated from Abernathy High School and then proudly left to serve his country in the United States Army. Charles would later marry the love of his life, Barbara Jean in 1956.

Charles worked in the Dairy business ensuring quality control of products through testing. He retired from the business just 15 years ago. Charles was a gifted musician and in his early years played the guitar, the trumpet and sang in dance bands. His love for music impacted the entire family. He was also enthusiastic about teaching a men’s Sunday School class for over 50 years at Mountain View Baptist Church. He never met a stranger and was beloved by everyone. His playful sense of humor easily put others at ease. We take great comfort in knowing that he now worships at the feet of Jesus and has reunited with his wife, family, and friends.

Charles was preceded in death by his loving wife Barbara Rankin, his parents McKenzie Rankin and Marion Rankin and his granddaughter Tamara Rankin. Charles is survived by his children, Robin Rankin, Crystal Long, Rory Rankin and Revis Rankin as well as several grandchildren, great grandchildren, friends and loved ones. Sandra Anguiano, his beloved caretaker, took care of both Barbara and Charles until the time of their deaths.

The funeral service for Charles will take place on Friday January 26^th at Sunset Funeral Home on 4631 Honda Pass Drive from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM. The Pastor’s message will begin at 6:00 PM. A burial service will be held for Charles at Fort Bliss National Cemetery with military honors at a time yet to be determined.
