Charles Victor McCammon

August 22, 1920 — June 3, 2012

Charles V. McCammon, 91, passed away peacefully with his loving family by his side on Sunday, June 3, 2012. He is survived by his loving wife of 62 years, Amalia F. McCammon, his two sons, John (Anna), Chuck, grandchildren John, Sarah, Alana, Lauren, Candace Hough (Jonathan), Madison McCarty and other extended family. Charles, also known as Bill, lived a remarkable life and was a veteran of WWII. Bill proudly served his country in the U.S. Air Force. He then continued serving another thirty-nine years of civil service at Biggs Army Air Base in El Paso, Texas. In his earlier days Bill was an amateur boxer, a hobby he enjoyed while assigned to the CCC camps. While boxing he acquired the nickname Wild (Bill) which stayed with him throughout his lifetime. His favorite past-times included raising orchids, breeding tropical fish, building a bird aviary, golfing, fishing and prospecting for turquoise and fire agate with is two sons in God's great outdoors. He enjoyed years of making silver jewelry and acquired superior lapidary workmanship skills working from his home workshop. He was a faithful member of Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church for 57 years and a member of the American Legion, Knights of Columbus, Elks Lodge, and Roncalli Social Church Club. He was a humble man who never bragged about his uncountable achievements, although he had many. Bill claims a special place in the hearts of his family and friends. He will be remembered for his great strength, kind heart, integrity, honesty, devotion to his family and timeless sense of humor. His family finds great comfort in knowing that Bill is with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. A memorial service will be held on Monday, June 11th from 5-8pm at Sunset Funeral Home Northeast, 4631 Hondo Pass El Paso, TX. Recitation of the rosary will be at 6pm. There will be a funeral mass at Blessed Sacrament Church at 10am on Tuesday, June 12th, with burial services immediately following at Fort Bliss National Cemetery. The family would like to express their deepest gratitude and adoration to Dr. Mohammed Alnajjar, Dr. Arsenio Lopez, Dr. Teresa Peyro, Ms. Lilly Mesa, Ms. Cindy Young, Mr. Fred Nangle, Mrs. Yvonne Waters and staff at VNA for their dedicated efforts.
