Charles W. Bethany, 96, a resident of El Paso for 90 years, passed away on October 25, 2011. Charles was born in St James Parish, LA to William Hobgood Bethany and Nora Templain Bethany. He moved with his family to El Paso when he was six years old. He was the last of his generation; his six brothers and two sisters all preceded him in death. His wife Aurora Bethany, and his son, Pat Ronald Bethany also preceded him. Charles is survived by his: son Charles Jr. and his wife Kathy Bethany of Manassas, Virginia; daughter-in-law Carmen Bethany of El Paso; Granddaughter Rebecca Alvarez and her husband Steve Alvarez of El Paso; and granddaughter Roberta Gonzales and her husband Jesus Gonzales of El Paso. He also has 10 Great grandchildren, Rebecca’s: Hannah Saenz: Caleb Alvarez; Emily Alvarez; Andrew Alvarez; Timothy Yeakley; Josiah Alvarez; Rachel Alvarez; and Nathanael Alvarez; and Roberta’s: Isaac Bethany, and Lyric Gonzales. Charles worked as an Electrical Supervisor at Southern Pacific Railroad for 38 years, retired in 1976. Prior to his position at the Southern Pacific Railroad, Charles was an electrician with Brownie’s Armature Exchange, and the El Paso Electric company. On retirement he was a very active member of the El Paso Cactus Club, he spent many hours planting the wonderful cactus garden surrounding the El Paso Museum of Archaeology. He was a member of the Grandview Baptist Church. Services for Charles will be held Saturday, Oct 29, 2010 at the Sunset Funeral Home, 4631 Hondo Pass, El Paso, TX 79904; 915-755-4494, with Visitation from 10:30am to 11:30am, and Funeral Services beginning at 11:30am.
