Cecilia M. Shuffer

October 19, 1925 — November 5, 2016

Cecilia Shuffer, who at the age of 91, and surrounded by her loved ones, passed away peacefully, after a long and blessed life, Saturday November 5th, in El Paso, TX. Cecilia was born in Los Angles, CA, on October 19, 1925 to Maria and Raymond Rose. She was raised in Ft. Huachuca, AR, with her mother Maria, her step-father Jesse Mann and her two brothers, David and Mario. She attended the University of Arizona, where she studied Language Arts, and went on to marry the love of her life and best friend, George Shuffer Jr. in 1946. Cecilia and George were married for 60 years and had eleven children. She was able to travel the world with her children and George, (Brigadier General USA,Ret.), who was a career Army, Infantry Officer and veteran of World War II, Korea and Vietnam. Cecilia and George made El Paso, TX their place of retirement in 1975. Her dearest husband George, passed away in February of 2005. God favored Cecilia with so many outstanding qualities. She was a skilled pianist, spoke both English and Spanish, and had a gifted talent for Interior Design (she knew how to make a house a beautiful, warm home, wherever she lived all over the world), as well as having a mastery of satisfying culinary delights. Her most remarkable quality though, was her example of how to be a wonderful, genuinely kind and caring, gracious, generous, wise beyond her years, trustworthy, rational and loving mother and human being to all who knew her. She is survived by her eleven children, Sister Mary Gloria Shuffer OSF, Col. David Shuffer, USAF,Ret., George Shuffer III, Marlene Kuhn, Rita Lloyd, Monica Thomas, Rosemary McQuillan, Joseph Shuffer, Maria Wallace, Anita Shuffer and Peter Shuffer. She is survived also, by her nieces and nephews, Ramona Mann, Ethel Newman, Jacob Shuffer, Jr., Philip Shuffer, and by her 19 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren. Cecilia’s children and family wish to extend their sincere gratitude to all of their extended family and friends who have helped them through this most difficult time. A Memorial Service and celebration of her life will be held on Wednesday, November 9, 2016 at 11:30 am, located at the Sunset Funeral Home; 4631 Hondo Pass; El Paso, TX 79904. As a Memorial Tribute, in lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Sisters of St. Francis; Sacred Heart Province; 5314 N. Columbine Rd.; Denver, CO 80221 She will be buried with her beloved George at the Ft. Bliss National Cemetery. Services entrusted to Sunset Funeral Home Northeast.
