Carol Ann Blankenhorn was born December 4, 1946 in Albany, New York to
John Fredrick Blankenhorn and June Leilla Rhinehart. Her early years were
spent on a farm where she developed a love of animals and appreciation for
family. She lived with several family members and eventually ended up taking
care of her grandmother. When her grandmother passed away, Carol left for
California to see the Pacific Ocean, travelling in a 1957 Bel Air with two of her
friends. She never made it, because the car broke down on the way and she had
to get a job in El Paso, Texas to raise money for the rest of her journey. While
there she met Rodolfo (Cab) Flores, who she married November 23, 1968 and
became the mother of Michael Anthony Flores, age 4.
Carol and Cab built their life together in El Paso. On September 18, 1969 they
had their second son and first child together, Jay Dean Flores, and on March
23, 1971, Joy Michelle Flores was born. They would raise Michael, Dean, and
Joy in a close family environment centered on faith, family, and friends.
After investigating several churches, Carol and Cab had uplifting experiences
and a spiritual witness that led them to becoming members of the Church of
Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints on April 6, 1974. Activity in their church
became a focus of life at the Flores home, leading to many life-changing
experiences and lifelong friends. Carol and Cab were sealed to each other and
to their children in the Mesa Temple and served in many callings, including as
ward missionaries. Many people had their lives lifted by their love and
fellowship.
After spending some time working for the City of El Paso, Carol and Cab
formed their own crane company, Cab Constructs Inc. Carol worked at building
the business, proving to be as savvy and intuitive in the business aspect of the
company as Cab was in the construction aspect.
On April 30, 2006 Carol became a widow, and after spending 38 years
together with her husband as best friends she found it a difficult transition.
Their faith and the promise of a forever family, sealed together in the House of
the Lord, brought hope that she would be re-united with Cab again. Carol
fought several major health challenges in her last years, surviving cancer twice
and struggling with respiratory disease. Despite this, she remained active in the
church and was always accompanied by the strength of her faith, family, and
friends.
Carol passed away peacefully on Thursday, July 2, 2020 at age 73 at the home
of her daughter, Joy. She is survived by her brother Jon, son, Michael Anthony
Flores, daughter, Joy Michelle Cadd, 16 grandchildren and 18
great-grandchildren. She leaves behind a legacy of love to all who knew her.
