Carmen A. Villarreal, an independent woman whose life's journey was marked by adventure, exploration, and profound love, passed away on May 8, 2024, in El Paso, Texas. She was born on July 17, 1931, in the small town of Esmeralda, Coahuila, Mexico.
Throughout her remarkable life, Carmen wore many hats with grace and tenacity. Her first marriage gave her the joy of motherhood. She found love and companionship in her second marriage until she was widowed. She was a successful businesswoman, who cultivated a deep passion for discovering the world and sharing its wonders with others. She was a proud advocate in her communities, contributing her time and effort to causes that bettered others.
Her spontaneous spirit took her to many parts of the world. She found Sayulita, Mexico to be her happy place where she spent most of her retirement years. Carmen enjoyed spending time with her family and listening to music. Carmen was always present and played a significant role in the lives of her family. She will be deeply missed.
A loving matriarch and cherished friend, Carmen leaves behind a legacy and memories that were made with love and laughter. In the embrace of mourning are her surviving family members: Anna Irene Mier (daughter); Genaro Mier (son-in-law); Leroy Driskell (son); Tirza Driskell (daughter-in-law); Wiley Driskell (son); Genaro Mier; Carlos Mier; Gaby Mier; Diana Sutherland; Annakarina Driskell; Leea Marie Driskell (grandchildren); Pilar Mier; Annika Mier; Audrey Sutherland; Henry Sutherland; Axel Herrera; and Delphine Herrera (great-grandchildren)- all of whom are the living legacies of her unconditional love and joy.
A Visitation will be held from 4:00 pm to 8:00 pm on Friday, May 10, 2024, at Sunset Funeral Homes-West with a Rosary to commence at 6:00 pm. A Funeral Mass will be held at noon on Saturday, May 11, 2024, at Queen of Peace Catholic Church, 1551 Belvidere Street. Services entrusted to Sunset Funeral Homes-West, 480 N. Resler Drive.
