Carlos E. Velarde, 80. In loving memory of our Father Carlos E. Velarde, who was preceded in death by his loving wife, and our Mother, Angela Valencia Velarde. He was the eldest son of Carmen S. and Simon Velarde and brother to Antonio Velarde, Hugo Velarde and Alberto Velarde who proceeded him in death. He is survived by: His sister Gloria Fernandez (Bobby Fernandez), sister Rachel Deanda (Abelardo Deanda), brother Robert Velarde (Carmela Velarde) and Ana Santoscoy (Manuel Santoscoy). Uncle to all their children. He is also survived by His Daughter: Carmen (Dan Rivas); Grandchildren: Daniel Rivas, Victoria Cusick (Chris), Veronica Van de Sande (Chris), Rebecca Rivas, Antonio Harlow-Rivas (Danielle Harlow-Rivas); Great Grandchildren, Kadin, D’Angelo, Luca; His Son: Carlos. E. Velarde, Jr.; Granddaughter: Cassie Velarde; His Daughter: Anna (Michael Burrows); Granddaughter: Angela (Don Bruce), Stephanie Burrows, Carolyn Burrows; His Daughter: Susan Tynan; Grandchildren: Trent, Michelle, Greg (Lizzie); Great Granddaughters: Madeline and Naomi, Ricky (Danielle); Great Granddaughter: Audrey, His Son: Michael A. Velarde (Hilda Velarde); Grandson: Michael A, II; His Daughter: Valentina Barker (Robert Barker), Grandchildren: Annalisa, Benjamin, and Jon Jon. He was a Fourth Degree Knights of Columbus, a member of Teamsters Local #911, and was a dedicated member of St. Luke’s Catholic Church in El Paso where he was affiliated with the St. Vincent De Paul Society and Instrumental in assisting with the building of the Church. He later attended St. Christopher’s Catholic Church in Indianapolis, Indiana. He served his country proudly in the United States Army as a radio operator in the World War II He enjoyed a long, successful career with Western Gillette and Roadway Express of forty-four years of accident-free driving. He earned his black belt in Tae-Kwon-Do at the age of sixty nine. Most of all, he was a compassionate and generous man beloved by all that knew him. He will be deeply missed by his family and friends. May God Bless and Keep you Dad.. Visitation will be held from 5 pm to 9 pm, Friday, June 29, 2007 at Sunset Funeral Home-West with a vigil at 7 pm. A funeral mass will be held at 9 am, Saturday, June 30, 2007 at St. Luke’s Catholic Church. Interment will follow at Mt. Carmel Cemetery with military honors.
