Carlos Alire Gutierrez, 96, a lifelong resident of El Paso, passed away peacefully in his sleep on Sunday, October 27, 2024. Carlos was preceded in death by his parents, Patrocinio & Reynalda Gutierrez, and several siblings.
He began his 30+ year career in Civil Service at the Bureau of Reclamation. After being drafted by the Army and completing his tour, he returned to the Bureau of Reclamation and eventually transferred to Ft. Bliss until he retired from Civil Service. He later went to work for El Paso ISD as a school bus driver until his retirement in 2001. His family will remember how much Carlos loved to tinker with his cars, yardwork, and woodworking projects. He never knew a stranger, was always ready with a quick smile, had great stories, and enjoyed being a practical jokester.
Carlos was a member of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Parish and Holy Name Society, who will act as Pallbearers.
He is survived by his loving wife of 64 years, Gloria, as well as his children Carlos Jr. (Mary Jane), Elizabeth, Rita (Brent), John (Christy), Gloria, and Carol; six grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; his sister Virginia; his brother Gustavo and countless nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that a donation be made to Hospice El Paso, 1440 Miracle Way, El Paso, TX 79925.
A special message from Liz Gutierrez: I would like to extend a most sincere thank you to Dr. Javier Lozano, MD, always my dad’s number one doctor, who we came to see as a friend; Dr. Manuel Borrego, MD, for your years of care. A very special thank you to the team at Hospice El Paso, particularly Priscilla, Alejandra, Sonia, Annel, and Ruth, his nurses. Thank you to Taylor for your guidance and support on Sunday during his final hours. Thank you to Andrea, Diana and Norma his caregivers, and to Toni (CNA) with the hospice team. May God Bless all of you.
