Carl Edward Swiger passed quietly at his home in El Paso on August 10, 2009. Known as Bob to friends and family, he was born September 30, 1930 in Clarksburg, West Virginia to Ray and Pauline Swiger. Enlisting in 1947 with the United States Army, he served with the Military Police at Sugamo Prison, Japan. A career soldier, he also served two tours in South Korea and two tours in Berlin, Germany. The highlight of his service was a tour of duty with the 82nd Airborne Division in South Vietnam; he retired from the Criminal Investigative Division at Fort Hood, Texas in 1976. He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Karin; daughters Sandra Whitaker and husband Ron of Fallon, Nevada and Carol Casstevens of Albuquerque, New Mexico; grandchildren Andrew Tiscareno, Michelle Tiscareno, Robert Kersey, and Casey Adamson; and cousins Mabel, Helen, and Jack. He was preceded in death by his parents Ray and Pauline; brothers William and Bernard; and sister Shirley. Visitation will be from 6:00-8:00 pm, Thursday, August 13, 2009 at Sunset Funeral Home-Northeast. Commital Service will be at 9:00 am, Friday, August 14, 2009 at Fort Bliss National Cemetery. Interment: Fort Bliss National Cemetery. Services entrusted to Sunset Funeral Homes-Northeast.
