Candido Suarez

Candido Suárez , SSGT, U.S. Army retired, joined his parents, Maria and Tomás; brothers, Pedro and Miguel; sister, Maria; and daughter, Maria, in our Lord’s embrace on, November 8, 2006 in El Paso, TX. He was born in Patillas, Puerto Rico on November 5, 1926. He convinced his high school sweetheart, Juliá Corcino, to marry him after numerous arguments in Biology class. They were married December 4, 1948 and raised five children together. After their marriage, he joined the U.S. Army and entered active duty on October 6, 1950. During his career in the U.S. Army, he served during the Korean War and was awarded the Combat Infantry Badge, Korean Service Medal, three Bronze Service Stars, the National Defense Service Medal, and the Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal. He was rated an Expert Marksman. Upon his retirement in 1972, he and Juliá settled in El Paso. At that time, he began his second career with the U. S. Post Office. After his second retirement, he loved to work hard with family and friends, whether indoors or out. He felt most at home building, fixing and working with his hands. His family and friends will always lovingly remember his generosity, his stories, and his advice. Candido leaves behind his wife of 58 years, Juliá; his siblings: Tomás, Joaquin, and Vidalina; his daughter, Lisbeth Suárez-Call; his son, Candido; his son, Rick and his wife, Cerena; his baby girl, daughter, Julie; grandchildren: John and wife, Kathleen, Myra and husband, Adam, Timothy, Jennifer, Lance and wife, Jennifer, Thomas and wife, Lisa, Trey, Julian, Christopher, Chelsea, Clifton, Matthew, and Kayla; great grandchildren: Christene, Nathaniel, Kaitlyn, and Zachary; his dog, Lucky; and the numerous wild birds he fed daily. Visitation will be from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. with a Rosary/Vigil to begin at 7 p.m. on Monday, November 13, 2006, at Sunset Funeral Homes- Northeast. Funeral Mass will be held at 9:45 a.m., Tuesday, November 14, 2006 at Most Holy Trinity Catholic Church. Interment will follow at Fort Bliss National Cemetery with Full Military Honors.
