“Bruce Lee Powell, “Skip”, age 78, passed away on November 15th, 2021 in El Paso, Texas. Skip was born July 31, 1943, in Toronto, Kansas, to Orval and Erma Powell. Skip was an avid golfer, hunter, and gun collector. He loved going to gun shows with his son. One of his most enjoyed unique hobbies was panning for gold. He is survived by his wife Nellie Johnston-Powell of El Paso, Texas; daughter Tracey Chinarian (Bryan) of Lake Havasu City, Arizona, son Larry Powell of El Paso, Texas; sister Janiece Horrell of Florida; 4 grandchildren Cory Benton (Mercy), Molly Benton, Elizabeth Atwood (Matthew) and Christopher Powell; and 4 great-grandchildren Kai Benton, River Benton, Abby Atwood, and Regan Atwood. He was preceded in death by his father and mother, Orval and Erma Powell and his wife Rosemary Powell (Henderson), brother Larry Powell and sister Carolyn Griffin. Skip was a true animal lover and rescued multiple dogs throughout his life. He leaves behind his best friend and companion, his dog Buster, who never left his side. In keeping with his life-long compassion for animals, the family asks that in lieu of flowers, donations in Skip’s name be made to The Humane Society of El Paso at hselpaso.org “We will always carry your memory in our hearts.“
