Bobby Hatfield, 78, of El Paso died Wednesday, August 21, 2019 following his 13 year bout with Parkinson’s Disease. He was born in Dallas, the son of Albert Sidney Hatfield and Mary Louise (Kennemer) Hatfield. Bobby graduated from Denison High School, earned a business degree from Del Mar College, a degree in Brazilian Studies from the Brazilian Institute in Rio de Janeiro, and a Bachelor of Arts in Theater from Seattle Pacific University.
Bobby taught middle school social studies for the El Paso Independent School District before his retirement in 2011. Prior to Bobby’s teaching career, he worked as a real estate agent, insurance agent and independent stockbroker, as well as working as an advance man for the White House under President Carter.
Bobby was knighted by the King of Yugoslavia. He acted in a leadership capacity for the Houston Junior Chamber of Commerce. He served on the town council for Addison, Texas and on several boards of directors throughout his career. During his time as a teacher in El Paso, he led his students in a push to encourage the city council to fly the Texas flag. He reached out to protect those in abusive situations and in later years was a strong defender of the handicapped. Bobby was ordained as a deacon at the First Baptist Church in El Paso, and also served as a Gideon.
Bobby loved people and animals. He was raised in a Christian family and accepted Jesus at the age of five.
He leaves behind his beloved wife, Donna Taylor; his son, Robert Edward Hatfield and Robert’s wife, Veronica; his daughter, Charlene (Charley) Hatfield; his brothers, Larry Hatfield and Kyle Sidney Hatfield; his grand daughter-in-law Haley; two granddaughters, Davina Phoenicia Hatfield and Aryelle Natalee Hatfield; a great grandson, Ronin Oliver Hatfield, and many close family members and friends. Bobby is preceded in death by his parents and one grandson, John Robert Hatfield.
A memorial service will be held 10:00am, August 24, 2019 at the First Baptist Church, 805 Montana Ave, El Paso, Texas 79902.
