Billy Dean Jenkins, SFC retired, beloved husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather and friend, joined the Army of our Lord on Tuesday, Jan. 2, 2007 at the age of 76. Born in Bedford, Indiana, May 7, 1930, he left at the age of 17 to join the military and served for 20 years in the Army Corp of Engineers. Billy has been a long time El Paso resident since retiring from the Army in 1968. Survived by his English bride of 54 years, Pauline “His Queen”; son, Kevin Jenkins and wife, Roseanne; daughter, Karen Herrera and husband, Robert; grandchildren: Blake Massey and wife, Christy, Tara Jenkins, Alyssa, Roberto Jr., and Ana Herrera, PFC Kyle Gorham, serving in Afghanistan, and Christopher Gorham; great grandchildren: Andrew and Dylan Massey, and Jazlynn Jenkins. “Pops” was a devoted husband and father, loved and admired by many, a terrific role model and true gentleman. He will be missed greatly. Visitation will be held from 3:00 pm - 7:00 pm on Thursday, January 4, 2007 at Sunset Funeral Homes-Northeast. Funeral Services will begin at 10:30 a.m., Friday, January 5, 2007 at Sunset Funeral Homes-Northeast. Interment will follow at Fort Bliss National Cemetery with Full Military Honors. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital or the American Cancer Society. Services entrusted to Sunset Funeral Homes-Northeast.
