Beverly Wayne Stubbs

June 25, 1923 — May 22, 2008

In loving memory Maj. Beverly Wayne Stubbs (Ret.) U. S. Army, was welcomed into the gates of Heaven on May 22, 2008 at the age of 84. Wayne will be missed by many, his kind heart and gentle laugh will linger into eternity. We were blessed with Wayne on the day he was born in Munford, Texas on June 25, 1923. He was an active member of the Church of Christ. Wayne graduated from Robert E. Lee High School in Baytown, Texas on May 27, 1941; he attended Texas A&M in Bryan, Texas where he was pursuing a degree in Mechanical Engineering prior to enlistment in the U. S. Air Corps. Wayne enlisted during WWII on October 1, 1942 and thus begin his long and honorable service to his country. Wayne was a proud Veteran of WWII, Korea, Vietnam and a loving husband and father. Wayne was assigned to the 390th Bomb Group(H); he saw service in the European Theatre including Normandy and Northern France. On August 2, 1944 his B-17 Flying Fortress went down, he served the rest of his tour as a POW. During the Korean Conflict Wayne was a member of the 78th Artillery Batillion where he was assigned the mission of supporting the 1st Infantry Division and the Army of the Republic of Korea, he was involved in the battle of Taegu and Unsan. During the Vietnam conflict Wayne served his tour as a member of the 6th Missile Battalion (HAWK) from July 1964 to January 1966. He retired on March 31, 1966, so ended his stint in the service of his country. After retirement Wayne completed his degree in Computer Sciences at Texas Western College in El Paso Texas. Wayne moved to Fort Worth, Texas where he worked for General Dymanics. In the late 70s he again moved to El Paso where he worked as a Computer Programmer for the University of Texas at El Paso,. He then proceeded to work for EER as a Battlefield System Engineer until his retirement in the mid 80s. Wayne is preceded in death by his wife Dora Stubbs; mother Lucy Brough Stubbs; father James L. Stubbs; brothers James K. Stubbs and William D. Stubbs. Left behind to cherish his memory his sister Merle Van Meter, daughter Cathy Lee Govereau; sons Michael Wayne Stubbs, Jay Duane Stubbs, Ronald Chris Stubbs. Wayne also will be in the hearts of countless others including his 5 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren. We Would like to give a special thanks to all his friends and extended family for providing Wayne with the precious moments, he always cherished, that touched his life and provided him with comfort and peace throughout his wonderful life. Visitation will be held on Thursday, May 29, 2008 at Sunset Funeral Home-East 750 N. Carolina Dr. from 4-9PM. Funeral Services will be at 12PM on Friday, May 30, 2008 at Sunset Funeral Home-East. Interment will follow at 1:30PM, May 30, 2008 at Fort Bliss National Cemetery with Full Military Honors. Services entrusted to Sunset Funeral Home- East
