Bertha Andrea Mercado

Bertha Andrea Mercado, 77, devoted wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and aunt, passed away on February 18, 2022, surrounded by her loved ones. Bertha was born in Chihuahua, Chihuahua, MX, on November 30, 1944. She became a proud U.S. citizen; she was a long-time resident of El Paso and a Catholic Church member. Bertha and Francisco, the love of her life, began a family in 1970. Bertha lovingly made caring for her husband, children, and home her life’s work. She dedicated her time to cooking and baking for her family. She extended her love and welcomed others into her home to share meals and an afternoon of laughter by telling jokes or watching one of her favorite shows or movies. Her granddaughters have inherited her hobbies of cooking, baking, sewing, and knitting. Bertha is preceded in death by her parents Raúl Benavidez and Aurelia Coronado Benavidez and her husband Francisco L. Mercado. She is survived by her daughters Andrea Mercado-Ramirez (Luis Ramirez) grandchildren Nadya Ramirez, Ilianna Ramirez; Sandra Y. Mercado (Joe Payan) grandchildren Charlie Payan, Lucero Payan; Lupe Mercado Diaz (Angel Manuel Diaz III); brothers Ricardo Benavidez, Antonio Benavidez, Raúl Benavidez, and Marcos Benavidez; sisters Cande Garcia, Teresa Ortiz, Susana Benavidez, Angela Benavidez, and Lupe Hernandez. Visitation will be held from 5:00 PM - 8:00 PM with a Rosary at 6:00 PM, Tuesday, March 8, 2022, at Sunset Funeral Homes -East, 750 N. Carolina. Funeral Mass will be held at 11:30 AM, Wednesday, March 9, 2022, at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church, 519 S. Latta. She will be laid to rest with her husband at 1:00 PM -Fort Bliss National Cemetery. She will be greatly missed!
