Bertha H. Mata, a beloved mother, grandmother, great grandmother, and cherished friend, passed away on August 14, 2023, at the age of 93. Bertha was born on May 17, 1930 to Miguel Heredia and Maria De Jesus Vazquez. She joins her parents and siblings, Magdalena Villavencio, Evea Heredia, Francisco Heredia, Raul Heredia, Miguel Heredia, and Jesus Heredia, who welcome her with open arms in the embrace of the afterlife.

Bertha's legacy lives on through her four children: Ruben Mata, Charlie Mata, Stella Rey, and Irene Chavez. She leaves a legacy of love, laughter, and unwavering care for her family. As an amazing grandmother to fourteen and great grandmother to twelve, Bertha showered her family with affection and wisdom, leaving behind cherished memories that will be cherished for generations to come.

During her lifetime, Bertha dedicated herself to her work as a manager at Valero and Del Sol at the airport. Her passion for making the store a welcoming haven for customers was evident to all who crossed her path. She possessed a natural gift for connecting with people, and her warm conversations brought smiles to countless faces.

Bertha's cooking was a source of joy and comfort for her loved ones. Her kitchen was a place of gathering, where the aroma of enchiladas, Mexican rice, and chile rellenos filled the air, creating a sense of home and belonging. She shared her love through cooking and brought people together through the shared experience of delicious meals. Her hospitality extended beyond the confines of her home, as she opened her heart and her door to anyone in need of care and companionship.

One of Bertha's favorite pastimes was dining at her beloved restaurant, Hot Tamale, where she would always treat her children and grandchildren.

A service to honor Bertha's remarkable life will be held on Thursday, August 24, 2023, at 6 pm at Sunset Funeral Homes - East, located at 750 N. Carolina. Family, friends, and well-wishers will gather to celebrate her life and bid farewell to a woman whose presence enriched the lives of all those she touched.
