Bertha W. Conner

Bertha Williams Conner was born in Vicksburg, MS on 25 January 1948 to Mr. and Mrs. Theo and Bertha M. Williams. Bertha was a devoted servant of Christ for most of her life, and served as an Usher for close to 20 years at Grove Street Baptist Church, Vicksburg, MS. In 2005, she joined Unity Missionary Baptist Church and was faithful in her service until illness prevented her attendance. Ms. Conner graduated high school in 1966, from Rosa A. Temple High in Vicksburg, MS and continued to Alcorn State University in Lorman, MS where she majored in Business Education and further education was received at Golden Gate University, San Francisco, CA. Though having grown up in Mississippi, Bertha left the area to pursue her career in the United States Air Force. She was a Vietnam Veteran, she then returned to her home in Vicksburg, MS where most of the family and friends resided. Ms. Conner has pursued careers in Education, Public Service, VA Administration, Business Owner, Beauty Distributor. In 2005, she moved to El Paso, TX and became a foster parent for 4 children. Ms. Conner is presently employed with the Headquarters & Headquarters Company, Mobilization and Deployment Brigade. As a young woman, she married Gunner Sgt. Willis V. Conner and to this union one daughter was born, Jocelyn R. Conner. Ms. Conner was a loving mother, sister, aunt and friend. Her memory will be cherished. Her survivors include: one daughter, Jocelyn R. Conner, El Paso, TX. One sister, Estella Lewis, Vicksburg, MS. Two brothers, John L. Williams, Greensboro, NC and Theo Williams, Jr., Vicksburg, MS. Two sisters-in-law, Lessye Williams, Cartersville, GA and Josie Williams. Four aunts: Edell Nixon, Vicksburg, MS, Elizabeth Williams, Vicksburg, MS, Berenice Crawford, Jackson, MS and Sarah Allen, New York City, NY. She was preceded in death by her mother and father, Mr. Theo Williams Sr. and Bertha M. Williams, Vicksburg, MS. Two brothers, Floyd Williams, Cartersville, GA and Robert Williams, Detroit, MI and one nephew Andrew Wallace, Vicksburg, MS. Her memories will be cherished by a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. Visitation from 7:00 pm to 9:00 pm, Tuesday, March 31, 2009 at Sunset Funeral Homes-Northeast. Funeral Service at 11:00 am, Wednesday, April 1, 2009 at Unity Mission Baptist Church. Interment will follow with Military Honors at Fort Bliss National Cemetery.
