Berdena Louise Pickle

November 18, 1916 — January 24, 2008

Berdena L. Carter Pack Pickle, (Grandma Bee), 91, our wonderful, caring mother went to be with the Lord January 24, 2008 after a brief illness. A special thanks to the staff of Sierra Medical and especially Susan in ICU. Bee was born November 18, 1916, in Tyrone, NM to Florence Wiley Carter and Matthew Edward Carter. She was raised in Mogollon, NM and at 6 years old rode down the mountain in a stagecoach when the family moved to Silver city, NM. When she was 16, Conrad Hilton hired her at the downtown El Paso Hilton Hotel to be a waitress. In 1939 she married Von D Pack and had 3 children. After raising her children she went back to the Airport Hilton Inn. Then moved to California working at the Beverly Hilton for a year. She returned to El Paso and worked at the downtown Travel lodge for many years before retiring. She lived life to he fullest for 91 years. Through the years she was an excellent seamstress making all her childrens clothes including formals, she crocheted, working crossword puzzles, read voraciously, loved watching professional wrestling and beer. She enjoyed her dear friends and life at Robin Hood Mobile Home Park. Mom never met a stranger and was loved by all who knew her. Survivors, children: Gari Nan Perry Wise and husband Wayne, Dee Ann Pack Zapatka and husband Stanley, Jimmy Pack. Grandchildren: Michael Perry, Patrick Zapatka and wife Judy, MSGT Michele Zapatka Hatch, Christopher Zapatka and wife Margie, SSGT David Zapatka and wife Janie. Step-Grandchildren: Trey Wise, Angela Wise. Great Grandchildren: Mathew Perry, Richard Perry, Jaryd Zapatka, Devin Hatch, Kody Hatch, Christopher Zapatka, Katelyn Zapatka. Step Great-Grandchildren: Jeremy O’Neill, Blythe Wise, Seven Mansfield and 2 Great-Great Grand daughters. Our mom requested there be no services, just remember with your thoughts and prayers and have a beer for her. In lieu of flowers, please make contributions to the charity of your choice.
