Benjamin Floyd Gomersall

July 20, 1943 — August 22, 2012

Benjamin Floyd Gomersall passed away Aug. 22, 2012 at age 69. He was born June 20, 1943 in Duncan, OK to Ervin and Ruth Gomersall. After his father returned from WWII, Ben and his family moved to South Dakota to live on the family farm where Ben attended a one-room school. Ben and his family moved back to Duncan, OK where he graduated from Duncan High School in 1961. After graduation, Ben enlisted in the US Air Force, served 4 years in aircraft maintenance as an Airman First Class, and was the crew chief for the B-52 Bomber. He was named “Airman of the Month” while stationed at Barksdale AFB. While stationed at Barksdale AF Base, Ben attended Centenary College of LA where he met Evaline Markel. They married on August 20, 1965 in Carlsbad, N.M. and settled in El Paso, TX where they have lived for 47years. Ben graduated from Texas Western College (Now UTEP) with a BS in History, a MA in Education, and earned his school superintendent post-graduate certification. He served the El Paso Independent School District as an assistant principal at Rusk and Vilas Elementary Schools and was principal at Aoy and Crosby. After retiring, he was called back to serve as the principal who opened Franklin High School. As an active member of Trinity-First United Methodist Church, he served as a Sunday school teacher. Walk to Emmaus was also an important part of his life. He was predeceased by his parents and his sister, Linda Sartin. His survivors include his wife Evaline, daughter Tracie Kaip (Darryl); son Brett (Lacey) and grandsons Jackson and Alex; sisters Kay Hall, Donna Kriz; Aunt Rudine Jones; Mother-in-law Harriet Markel; Sisters-in-law Ann Marks and Judy Markel Dreyer, and many nieces and nephews. Memorials may be given to Trinity-First United Methodist Church, 801 N. Mesa, El Paso, TX 79902. Memorial Services will be held on Saturday, August 25, 2012, 2:00 p.m. at Trinity-First United Methodist Church, followed by a reception in Fellowship Hall.
